About Reliable Checks
We do one thing: comprehensive national criminal record checks, done properly, at a flat price.
Most background check services sell speed. You enter a name, a database returns a list of possible matches, and you are handed the raw output within seconds. It looks thorough. Frequently it isn't.
In roughly half of US states, the records feeding those databases cover incarceration only, with no charges, no pending trials and no not-guilty verdicts. Plenty of other records carry no disposition at all, so you learn that someone was charged but never learn how the case ended. That gap is the whole difference between useful information and noise.
Reliable Checks exists to close it. We run the database search because it is a useful first pass, then do the work that follows: an SSN address trace to establish where someone has actually lived, county-level searches of every one of those jurisdictions, and a manual review by someone who knows what an ambiguous record looks like. Sex offender registry and Department of Corrections records are part of the standard report, not an add-on.

How we work
Four principles
Breadth first
People move, and a record in a state nobody thought to check is still a record. We search nationally by default rather than making coverage an upsell.
Records where they live
Commercial databases are a starting point, not an answer. County courts hold the charges and the dispositions, so that is where we go.
A person reads the results
Gray-area records are where automated checks quietly fail. A near match on a common name is a judgement call, and someone has to make it. Ours get reviewed by hand.
Say what the report is
Our reports are for personal knowledge and due diligence, not FCRA-regulated screening. We would rather turn away a sale than let someone misuse a report.
